Branch Sabatini is off with the fairies, viewing the world through rose-tinted glasses. They are disconnected from and out of touch with the world around them like a fish out of water, but they want nothing more than to connect. They were raised in a commune with their family and still hold their traditions and beliefs near and dear to their heart. Branch reflects on those days fondly, however, their older brother, Lake couldn't be happier when they finally got out of what he referred to as a cult.

After their parent's mysterious disappearances, they leave their old lives behind, changing their names and moving to Selene Valley. Branch becomes Ashley and Lake becomes Blake. Blake keeps Ashley on a tight leash, trying to protect them from the harsh realites of the outside world, but this only leads to bigger problems.

Ashley is hellbent on helping people and animals and they feel a strong sense of duty to help a hitchhiker, despite Blake's protests. Little do they realise the neon hurricane they brought into their lives. Maxxy Malone is not what he seems, but Ashley gives him the benefit of the doubt, believing there to be good in everyone. Maxx challenges and changes Ashley in ways they could never percieve before.
